About Me
I’m a freelance writer, editor, and writing teacher. My book, The Possibility of Life, was published by Hanover Square Press in the US and Duckworth Books in the UK in April of 2023. It was an NPR Science Friday Book Club Pick, a Wired Book to Read for Spring, and a TODAY Show Summer Pick.
I'm the series editor for The Best American Science and Nature Writing, and a lecturer at Smith College and at the Johns Hopkins Science Writing Master's Program.
Previously, I was associate editor of Future Tense, a collaboration of Slate, New America, and Arizona State University. I wrote the romance book review column for The New York Times for two years; I've taught writing (to everyone from essayists to scientists) at Columbia, Eugene Lang (The New School), Catapult, and the Sackett Street Writers' Workshop. I created, hosted, and produced The Catapult (no relation to Catapult, above, beyond great taste in names); it was a podcast of new writing. I've hosted readings and interviewed authors at book launches and events.
